Obama’s Big Reveal on Obamacare

Sometimes an "apology" isn't. President Obama said Obamacare would let us keep our health insurance, but as of today, at least 4.2 million people have already been told they are losing their insurance coverage in December because of Obamacare. Some 16 million cancellations are expected. This is our "Christmas present" from the President and Congressional Democrats.

Chastised from every corner, President Obama has tried to say he didn't say what he said. On November 4, the fifth anniversary of his first presidential election, President Obama stood in front of his cohorts at Enroll America and lied about the lie he'd told the American people almost 40 times. He said:

"If you have or had one of these plans before the Affordable Care Act came into law, and you really liked that plan, what we said was you could keep it if it hadn't changed since the law passed."

Nonsense. In fact, the whitehouse.gov website still includes a version of "you can keep it." And video after video shows Obama saying some version of, "If you like your health plan, you can keep your health plan. Period." Last week, liberal reporter Chuck Todd on NBC News asked the president if he owed Americans an apology for misleading them, and this is what Mr. Obama said,

"I regret very much that what we intended to do - which is to make sure that everybody is moving into better plans because they want 'em as opposed to because they're forced into it, that we weren't as clear as we needed to be in terms of the changes that were taking place.

"Keep in mind that most of the folks who got these cancellation letters, they'll be able to get better care at the same cost or cheaper in these new marketplaces.  So, the majority of folks will end up being better off. Of course because the website's not working right, they don't necessarily know it right?

"Even though it's a small percent of folks who may be disadvantaged, you know, it means a lot to them and it's scary to them. And I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me."

This is not an apology." As Chris Stirewalt from FoxNews, who called Obama's NBC statement "apology-ish," says, "It's only because he and his team cannot do the Internet correctly that he's sorry." Yes, and he's sorry for the fact that he's stuck in this difficult political situation. Putting the words "regret" and "sorry" in a statement does not an apology make.

But his non-apology has a "big reveal." First, he says his administration was making sure "everybody is moving." In other words, he expected a lot of American plans to be cancelled. Then he says people with these "cancellation letters" ...

Stunning Statistic - Why Young May Refuse Obamacare

Once upon a time, there was insurance. Real insurance. The kind of policy you put in a drawer and forgot about unless you experienced cancer, a coma, or a car crash. This was inexpensive coverage, the kind of coverage that Obamacare outlaws for anyone 30 years and older. You paid cash for all routine and minor care. An op-ed in The Wall Street Journal by Carl Schramm gives one good reason why the young and healthy might look askance at Obamacare prices: "the average male sees a physician six times between the ages of 21 and 35." This is why Obama wants them in the exchange. They will be ripped off to pay for the older and sicker enrollees.

Sign our Obamacare Opt Out Declaration

Make your voice heard in a visible way...and help to support CCHFreedom's "Refuse to Enroll" effort. Everyday, our office receives Exchange Opt Out declarations from around the country. We just got our first Rhode Island declarations. Thanks!! We're still missing declarations from Massachusetts. We need all 50 states, and as many sign-ups as possible before we release it to the major media. Be part of our effort to show state-by-state resistance to enrolling in the Obamacare Exchange! Now is the time to declare your intention to opt-out and stay out!!

Your Pre-Existing Condition May Not be Covered

This article by Robert Book, Forbes contributor, underscores the reality that coverage is not care. The ACA's Section 1201 said "a health insurance issuer offering group or individual health insurance coverage may not impose any preexisting condition exclusion with respect to such plan or coverage." However, Mr. Book writes, "The insurance plan has to take anyone who wants to enroll, regardless of their health status or health history - but they don't have to provide the same treatments, the same doctors, or the same medications that a patient has been receiving." In fact, they can deny all sorts of treatment under "medical necessity" definitions and "experimental treatment" definitions.

Distasteful Obamacare Ads in Colorado

Last month, the Colorado Consumer Health Initiative released their "Thanks Obamacare" ads featuring three beer-guzzling guys and a keg of beer. The CCHI says this is funded by a Families USA Innovation Fund. This month, their advertising outfit went deep into debauchery for ads that encourage "hot to trot" women to enroll in Obamacare coverage. One hopes that young American women are not convinced to enroll in government health care by ads that treat them so disrespectfully. ACTION STEP: If you live in Colorado, contract your state legislator to move to eliminate any government grants CCHI and Progress Now may be receiving.

Country Stars Wait for "Obamacare by Morning"

Country music artists have joined the likes of Jon Stewart and South Park by taking highly publicized shots at Obamacare and the disastrous rollout. At the 2013 CMA Awards on Nov. 6, hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood lampooned the Obamacare website, with Underwood stating, "I started signing up last Thursday, and I'm almost done." The hosts then launched into the satirical "Obamacare by Morning" (apologies to George Strait), to a chorus of supportive hoots and hollers.

Five Ways to Get Health Insurance Without Exchanges

Under the stipulations of the Affordable Care Act, Americans will be required to purchase health insurance or face an "uninsured tax" penalty. This means you do not have to be insured. You also do not have to purchase coverage through the Obamacare exchanges. Here are five ways to buy health insurance without a government exchange:

  1. Use an insurance broker.
  2. Buy a plan online through a private insurer.
  3. Check with your employer.
  4. Join a trade organization or similar group.
  5. Contact an insurer directly about possible plan options.

Obamacare Website Down for Maintenance...Daily

The federal data hub was unavailable from Nov. 9 to Nov. 12 as key parts of HealthCare.gov were closed for IRS maintenance. It will also be down for 4 hours each night. While the site is down, consumers were still able to fill out applications, but unable to research qualifications for tax credits and other information. The troubled website has experienced myriad errors and problems, but the four day hiatus is the first extended period of maintenance since its launch on Oct. 1.

Obama Considers "Fix" for Health Law

The Obama administration has announced that they are considering a "fix" to the Affordable Care Act that would expand the base of who would be eligible for taxpayer-funded subsidies under the law. This is probably not legal under the law, and would be another example of Obama flexing his executive arm outside the law. In a Nov. 7 address, President Obama apologized to those have been "inconvenienced" by dropped coverage and soaring premiums. This was no apology and both ramifications were expected under Obamacare.

They Were Told

Amid the disastrous launch of Obamacare, the reactions from the White House have included dismay and surprise. However, according to documents from contractors that worked on HealthCare.gov, the company currently handling the website repairs told the government that the site was unable to handle high traffic, among other issues. So the administration was aware of the issues, but decided to move ahead anyway, meaning the failure is not a surprise.

Low Low Low Obamacare Enrollment

Today, the Obamacare administration released Exchange enrollment numbers. Only 106,185 have Obamacare coverage, although they haven't all enrolled because not all have paid. HHS won't know until Dec. 15 how many have actually paid. Only ¼ of these "enrollees" came through healthcare.gov, the troubled federal Exchange website; the rest through the 14 state exchange websites (state-based portals into the national exchange system). An additional 392,261 enrolled in traditional Medicaid or the government program for children. Healthcare.gov remains a problem for the administration...and a detriment to Obama's national health care scheme.

Healthcare Cancellations Spark Lawsuit

The fallout from the health insurance policy cancellations is starting to be felt in California, where two people are suing Anthem Blue Cross over the cancellation issue. Two Californians say Anthem pressured them into forfeiting prior coverage that would be grandfathered in under Obamacare. About 900,000 Californians received cancellation notices, and up to 1 million more may receive additional cancellation notices. The backlash has already resulted in Blue Shield of California delaying cancellations for over 100,000 customers until March 31, 2014.

ACA Tools "Working As Planned"

IRS acting Administrator Daniel Werfel has said that the IRS has acted on 300,000 of 1.3 million requests from the exchanges to verify incomes for tax and credit eligibility. "Our ACA tools are working as planned," said Werfel. There's only one problem with that statement. The ACA tools and income verifications were supposed to be done in real time, providing a "quick and easy" process. With only 20 percent of the requests completed, the tools are not working in real time. What will the IRS do when everyone else is supposed to register between the Nov 30 'fix-it' date and the Dec 15 'enroll by' date?

Quote of the Week:

"A willful decision to hide an internal ideological choice to blow up these millions of insurance plans, they withheld that from the American people. during an election." - Chris Stirewalt, Foxnews.com "Power Play" host, November 7, 2013 ( video).

Stats of the Week:

$7,450 - the average amount that health care will increase under Obamacare (solely attributable to Obamacare) for a family of four between 2014 and 2022.

Marriage Penalty-Get Obamacare or Stay Married?

In their push for Obamacare, liberals often talked about people choosing between food and medicine. Some people probably do make these choices, although they may have had other options like charity, discounts or eliminating non-essential personal spending. Regardless, I wonder if Obamacare supporters realized that the law would tempt people to divorce rather than stay married? Continue reading
