President's Commentary

The secret is out. Yesterday, The Wall Street Journal revealed the story of collusive deal-making on Obamacare between the White House and the pharmaceutical industry (Big Pharma). The editors provided actual email correspondence as evidence.

Big Pharma negotiated an Obamacare deal that did the least damage to its industry. Language that would have allowed importation of drugs from Canada was stopped as were Medicare Part D cost reductions. In exchange, the pharmaceutical industry agreed to provide $80 billion in drug rebates. Big Pharma also spent $150 million for an advertising campaign in coordination with the White House and $70 million to set up two pro-Obamacare lobbying front groups called "Healthy Economy Now" and "Americans for Stable Quality Care."

But Big Pharma did not give us Obamacare. Big Pharma could not force Members of Congress to push the green button. Obamacare happened because constitutional integrity was lacking. Obamacare advanced because the President, his White House staff and members of Congress wrote, never read, passed and signed an unconstitutional "health care takeover" bill into law.

Big Pharma was probably trying to protect itself from the fate of the medical profession, which has in large part been taken over by the government through 132,000 pages of Medicare regulations, paid-for-performance schemes and price controls. However, Big Pharma should not have gone out of its way to support Obamacare. $220 million was a huge cash infusion into Mr. Obama's campaign to impose a government takeover of health care.

One wonders what Big Pharma was thinking. Under a national health care system, Big Pharma would not likely survive except as a shell of itself. There doesn't appear to be any long-term thinking in their decision to sell Obamacare to the American people.

During the battle over HillaryCare, the health insurance industry looked long-term and used the "Harry and Louise" television campaign to kill HillaryCare. I realize they did it for self-protection. They probably weren't thinking about the country, but it worked until Obamacare. But unfortunately with Obamacare the health plans (HMOs), having been consolidated into a few major companies, played along with Obama and got a $1 trillion cash cow in return.

It's time for Freedom to Win. We are all waiting breathlessly  for the U.S. Supreme Court to rule in the next two weeks.  Let's pray that the Court does the right thing and throws out Obamacare completely.

On your behalf, I'll be in Washington, D.C. talking about freedom. As a result of the donations that have come in so far for our opportunity to meet with U.S. Senator Rand Paul, I booked a flight. I'm trusting enough donations will also come in to cover the hotel and taxis, etc. I'm working to get more appointments too. If you haven't already donated, please do.  As a reminder, we're a non-profit 501(c)3.

We rely totally on private tax-deductible donations for everything we do to advance freedom.

Now on to the news. . . .

News to Know:

What is Mitt Romney Thinking?

Because Leavitt supports Obama's government health insurance exchanges, conservatives are already up in arms about Mitt Romney's choice of former Utah Governor Michael Leavitt to lead his transition team into the presidency. There is more reason for concern. The Bipartisan Policy Center recently released a report with Leavitt's name on it as co-chair, "Lots to Lose: How America's Health and Obesity Crisis Threatens our Economic Future."  The report begins with a large diagram that claims American's health is impacted 50% by behavior....and that Americans only spend 4% on healthy behaviors. Most of the report's solutions are government-focused. So, Mr Leavitt is not only supportive of federal takeover centers for health care (exchanges), it appears he's also supportive of federal takeover initiatives for lifestyle, eating and food. What is Mitt thinking?

Exchanges Won't Work; Too Expensive

Yet another conservative organization has come out against Obama's health insurance exchanges. The Galen Institute has released a  report called "What's Wrong with Health Insurance Exchanges?" As author Rita E. Numerof, Ph.D. notes, "PPACA's solution is fundamentally flawed and unsustainable: It will limit choice, create new bureaucracies, cost consumers and taxpayers more, and put additional burdens on the state." She also writes that these "major new bureaucracies [will] stifle competition, limit choices available to consumers, and burden states with an avalanche of new responsibilities to comply with federal directives." Ms. Numerof underscores as well the "intensive data-gathering responsibilities" and the costs to taxpayers. See chart below for examples:

Take Me Out of Obamacare

A new poll by The New York Times says two-thirds of Americans want all or part of Obamacare repealed. Great idea! The Courtʼs ruling is imminent. So on this American Flag Day, letʼs have a little fun. I came up with words to a very recognizable American baseball song to help the Supreme Court justices make the right decision. Iʼm not going to sing it but youʼll figure it out.
Here goes:
